Steep ski camp Chamonix, France

My passion for skiing goes far beyond the free riding and ski touring - I really like skiing the steep stuff.
If you'd like to discover some of the classic runs of the Alps, join me for a week of adventure in either Chamonix or the Dolomites - or why not combine both and make it a legendary road trip!

This program is designed for confirmed skiers looking to take that big step into the world of big mountains and steep lines. The aim of the course is to become technically proficient in basic mountaineering skills and tackle a “project” line at the end of the week.We will cover all important elements of mountaineering needed to ascend and complete a successful descent. Skills covered include:

  • Picking your line

  • Safe glacier travel

  • How to make turns on steep slopes

  • Setting anchors in snow and ice for belaying and rappelling

  • Correct use of crampons and ice tools to access the "goods"

Some past programs have included stellar descents of the Gervasutti Couloir on the Tour Ronde, the Mettrier Spur on the Domes de Miage or the Barbey Couloir on the Aig d’Argentiere, Brenva Glacier, Glacier Rond, Holzer Couloir, north face of the Marmolada...

Chamonix Steep Skiing Camp

Chamonix is one of my top ski destinations and therefore it is only logical that I offer a freeride camp to the mecca of skiing. • sampling the Italian side of Mont Blanc with the Skyway lift above Courmayeur, Italy - some of the best skiing in the massif

Typical 6 day Program

Day 1 General assessment

Our first morning gets started with some basic intro skiing possibly at the infamous Aiguille du Midi cable car. This will be followed by a bit of skinning and a boot pack to asses everyone's technique and level. After a lunch brief, we will make a plan for the week to include a reasonable final goal - either a slope or a summit.

Days 2-5 Perfecting technique
The next several days are used to practice actual techniques needed to safely access and ski gradually steeper lines. The venue of Chamonix has so many prized descents to offer even the most advanced skier, so everyone is sure to learn and be challenged.
One evening will be spent using video to critique technique.

Day 6 The prized descent
The main goal of the week that will be determined based on local conditions, skier level and available options. This final day is one that will require hard work, sweat and some suffering. But it will all be worth it at the end. Celebratory evening dinner.
