No Limits?

No Limits?

May 5, 2016

Amazed - yes amazed at what can be done these days. I was in the Argentiere bassin above Chamonix a couple of weeks ago and had a hard time fathoming the amount of "ski lines" that had been done.

I sat in amazement on the front deck of the Argentiere hut and had to borrow a pair of binoculars just to be sure what I was seeing was indeed what I was seeing.

Ok the vast majority of these these lines have been skied before - several are even done on a somewhat "regular" basis. But this time was different. The conditions weren't optimal, optimal and it was the first real decent sticky snow of the spring. Yet everywhere there was snow - it was tracked. I sat in amazement on the front deck of the Argentiere hut and had to borrow a pair of binoculars just to be sure what I was seeing was indeed what I was seeing. I don't know anywhere in the world that has such a high level of skiers and boarders than the Chamonix valley. And at that moment in time, the level was indeed high.

Over the past couple of weeks the conditions have improved, deteriorated and gotten good again. It's the season for riding steep lines and there is no better place anywhere to do this than the Chamonix valley.

Several descents were accomplished that rarely see repetitions. Bravo to those that had the balls, skill, desire and idea to achieve these lines. Where will the limit be reached?
